Xinhua | Updated:2017-11-22 17:05XIAMEN — A second-generation HPV vaccine has been approved by China Food and Drug Administration for clinical testing, the developer said Wednesday.It is the worlds second second-generation human papilloma virus (HPV) vaccine to reach the clinical test stage, following one developed by Merck & Co Inc (MSD), which also obtained permission for clinical testing in China.The research is led by the National Institute of Diagnostics and Vaccine Development in Infectious Diseases, based at Xiamen University in East Chinas Fujian province. The vaccine will be produced in Xiamen, if approved.Compared with the first-generation vaccine, the new one can protect against five more high-risk types of HPV and two more low-risk types. It is estimated it will be able to prevent about 90 percent of cervical cancers and genital warts.Developers at Xiamen University said the vaccine uses more cost-effective coliform bacteria as the effective antigen, while foreign companies use yeast or insect cells, giving it an edge in the market.The Chinese HPV vaccine is expected to enter the market in 2022 after four to five years of clinical testing.Related StoriesIn Hong Kong, women must wait for vaccine against cancer-causing HPVVaccine for HPV wins approvalHPV vaccine approved for cervical cancer preventionCall to give girls HPV vaccinePhotoXian-Chengdu high-speed railway enters test runHigh-speed train stewardesses receive training in SW ChinaExercises to stay energetic in winterGiant panda pair to be released into wild tommorrowNew Fuxing bullet trains on new routesTourists visit Gobi area in Inner MongoliaProfile: Xi Jinping and his eraDecoding Xis reportLatestArchaeologists excavate oldest tombs in XinjiangFree noodles for sanitation workers at Harbin restaurantArchaeologists excavate oldest tombs in XinjiangChina, France hold relic protection seminarSnow sculpture park opens in HeilongjiangState Council NewsPremier Li expresses hope on China-Japan relationsPremier Li urges more supplies of domestic leukemia drugsExclusiveHighlights of Xis remarks at APEC Economic Leaders MeetingXi, Trump reach agreement on important issuesSino-US economic ties in numbersEditors picksFree noodles for sanitation workers at Harbin restaurantParents opt for overseas trips and education through entertainmentTen photos you dont wanna missTen photos from across China: Nov 10-16SpecialDiscovering HainanCPC encyclopediaBACK TO THE TOPHOMECHINAWORLDBUSINESSLIFESTYLECULTURETRAVELWATCHTHISSPORTSOPINIONREGIONALFORUMNEWSPAPERChina Daily PDFChina Daily E-paperMOBILECopyright 1995 -var oTime = new Date();
