Xinhua | Updated:2017-09-14 10:32BEIJING – Chinas fixed-asset investment (FAI) remained basically stable in the first eight months of the year thanks to robust investment in infrastructure.In January-August, FAI grew 7.8 percent year on year to 39.42 trillion yuan ($6 trillion), the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) said Thursday.The pace was slower than the 8.3 percent increase in the first seven months and failed to meet market estimates of 8.2 percent.”Despite the mild retreat, the investment structure continued to improve,” NBS spokesperson Liu Aihua said at a press conference, citing more capital pumped into high-tech industries, infrastructure and weak economic areas.Infrastructure investment, which accounts for more than 20 percent of total FAI, jumped 19.8 percent, driven by investment in public facility management and road transport. High-tech manufacturing saw investment up by 19.5 percent.The NBS calculation does not include investment made by farmers. It includes projects with planned investment of more than 5 million yuan and all property development.Related StoriesChinas service outsourcing grows rapidlyChinas trade surplus shrinks 14% in AugChinas August inflation expected to rise as food prices increaseChina releases new index on growth momentumPayments for China IP boom as service sector picks up pacePhotoAfrican women sell crystal earning $460 a dayApple launches $999 iPhone X in bid to regain innovation leadFrom revolution to evolution: Revisiting the past 10 years of iPhoneAlibaba holds glitzy 18th birthday party in HangzhouChongqing 24-hour restaurant earns family four housesNanjing expo showcases VR, robot, cloud technologyMost Viewed in 24 HoursState Council News More efforts against money launderingGovt policy moves from the past weekTop 10Top 10 international talents favorite regions in ChinaEditors picksShanghai becomes international talents favorite cityAI computer visions big potential to shake up consumer marketChina DataTimeline of policy supports for the rental home marketQ&A With CEOServing in the name of progressBehind an advertising visionSpecial2017 Summer DavosChinas Q1 economic dataBACK TO THE TOPHOMECHINAWORLDBUSINESSLIFESTYLECULTURETRAVELWATCHTHISSPORTSOPINIONREGIONALFORUMNEWSPAPERChina Daily PDFChina Daily E-paperMOBILECopyright 1995 -var oTime = new Date();
