Specials |中文 HomeLocalLiuzhou improving nursing homes( chinadaily.com.cn )Updated: 2013-08-05Liuzhou, in South China’s Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region recently came up with a plan to increase the number of beds in its nursing homes to provide adequate support for its aging population.The municipal civil affairs bureau reports that they expect to increase the number of beds to 15,000, by 2015, to deal with sizeable population of senior citizens, so there will be more than 30 beds for every 1,000 senior citizens at area nursing homes.Liuzhou has a “9073” model to provide more care and support for the aging population, which means that about 90 percent of its senior citizens rely on home care, while as many as 7 percent can rely on community support, and 3 percent on care and services of private nursing facilities.In fact, Liuzhou has found that a lack of nursing home facilities, shortage of beds, and professional caregivers are the top three challenges it faces, so, to face these challenges, it has come up with a plan to build 21 day-care centers in its four districts and add no fewer than 2,500 beds by 2015.
